Through this new guide and its concise, easy-to-use format, Hanson presents the time-saving, labour-saving, cost-saving advantages of its thin joint system, which uses Thermalite Thin Joint Mortar and Aircrete blocks.
The Site Guide to Thin Joint Masonry is a 24-page, full colour A5 publication which explains the system in four main sections: pre-construction planning; tools and materials; setting out; and detailing. Products, systems and applications are fully illustrated by a series of on site photographs and detailed cutaway diagrams.
Stressing the importance of careful planning, especially in terms of site management, scheduling of labour and sourcing of materials, the guide focuses on the key feature of Thermalite Thin Joint Masonry, which is the ability to build the inner leaf first: this takes the brickwork off the critical path.
The guide also lists the tools and materials required, including standard and large format blocks, thin layer mortar, and hand held applicator scoops which are conveniently colour-coded for easy selection according to the width of block being used. The necessary mixing tools and cutting tools are also specified, along with a handy checklist of materials to ensure maximum efficiency on site.
The setting out section advises on base course construction, as well as mortar handling, mixing, application, block laying and stability, complete with advice on working in various extreme weather conditions.
Detailing information includes important advice and helpful tips regarding movement control, as well as the installation of windows and openings, lintel support and bedding, and intermediate floor support.
