Suntile – a new concept in light tunnel technology

By providing a direct path for daylight, a light tunnel can transform windowless areas. The launch by Klober of Suntile marks a fresh design approach as the product uses a clear existing tile of the profile used on the roof rather than a traditional dome. For maximum light efficiency, the highly reflective mirror ducting is square in profile rather than circular, so even on dull days, natural light magnification will illuminate hallways and stairwells. Suntile requires no structural alterations to fit, just cutting of the underslating membrane, plasterboard and insulation. The ducting is adjustable to suit any roof pitch, while flat pack extension kits enable the ducting also to be routed around obstructions. Suntiles are available in most common tile and slate shapes; there is even a flat roof option and a clay Double Roman. Made from UV-stable polycarbonate (which is significantly stronger than concrete tiles), Suntile is virtually unseen from ground level, so with an uninterrupted roof line there is far less likelihood of planning objection, even in conservation areas. In full sunlight, one Suntile can produce light equivalent to a 1000 watt light bulb, such that energy saving equates to around £30 - £35 per year. Installation is easy, being within the scope of a competent DIYer and taking as little as half an hour.
