Non-lead flashing

Ubbink Ubiflex is a non-lead flashing which can be used in all applications where lead is traditionally used to provide a weatherproof junction at features such as changes of direction and materials, for example, at abutments, chimneys, saddles, valleys and dormers and can also be used to form damp proof courses and cavity trays in masonry walls.

Available in 9 widths and 3 colours - grey, black and terracotta, Ubiflex has a 25 year product guarantee and is compatible with all structural components and common building materials including pitched & flat roofing, thermal panels, extract flues, ventilators, metal sheet cladding, rooflights and single-ply membranes.

Ubiflex is 80% lighter than lead - giving handling,structural and health and safety advantages.

Ubiflex is up to 50% quicker to install than lead, is fully malleable, can be worked in both directions and is self-sealing if punctured. Ubiflex is non-toxic, recyclable, does not cause any unsightly staining or require any special handling.

Ubiflex is only of value to the installer; it has no re-sale value as scrap and provides a once-only solution to the growing problem of lead theft.

The Ubiflex system includes High-Tack sealant & Ubi-Seal tape for sealing down to tiles, slates and overlap joints, Ubiflex clips for easy fixing into mortar joints, Gap-Seal for filling the joints and we even offer a ‘There is no lead on this roof sign’ to deter thieves.

Ubiflex is the only flexible flashing system available on the market with a BBA Certificate. It is also accepted by the NHBC and Zurich Insurance.

In addition to its BBA certification, the Ubiflex system also received excellent results in wind tunnel tests at the Building Research Establishment. During the test, the Ubiflex flashing and sealant compounds were subjected to very high wind speed conditions on a 2m2, 30º pitch test roof that was mounted at the end of the wind tunnel.

The BRE documentation states: ‘The flashing around the chimney and a section installed between two layers of flat tiles resisted the maximum wind speed of 49m/s (110mph) without visible damage.’ To put that into context, the relevant British Standard states that the design wind speed to be expected on a two-storey house in the London area, would be of the order of 25m/s (56mph) to 35m/s (78mph).

All of which confirms that the Ubiflex flashing system is ideal for use in all weather conditions usually found in the UK and can be specified and used with the confidence that it it will give many years of waterproof protection.
