Newey & Eyre Helps Installers with New Range of Newlec Consumer Units and Devices

Leading electrical wholesaler, Newey & Eyre has updated its range of Newlec domestic consumer units and devices to help installers meet the demands of the 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2008).

Of the many substantial changes contained in the 400-plus page wiring regulations, it is now necessary for all sockets in domestic properties to have 30mA protection as well as protection by MCBs. Installations should be divided up into circuits so as to take account of danger and inconvenience caused by a single fault and they should also be arranged to prevent unwanted tripping of RCDs.

Helping installers to meet the demands of this legislation, Newey & Eyre has launched a new range of Newlec insulated and metal cased consumer units.

In addition to its previous popular products, such as main switch and split load units, the Newlec offering now includes additional models, specifically designed with the 17th Edition regulations in mind. Ideal for use in situations where complete protection and specific independent circuits are required, the new Newlec High Integrity units allows circuits to be grouped together to ensure that a single fault does not cause inconvenience, danger or other hazards. Alternatively, for a more cost-effective solution, Newey & Eyre has introduced a range of Newlec Dual RCD consumer units for use in installations where no independent circuits are needed.

Designed for ease of installation, all Newlec consumer units offer a host of added benefits including extra wiring space, all round cable entries, an easily accessible raised DIN rail and a quarter turn screw for quick release of the cover. The new insulated units have a modern appearance, and feature a stylish curved design. Plus, to complement the new and existing Newlec consumer unit ranges, Newey & Eyre has extended its range of Newlec MCBs, RCBOs and RCDs.

Kevin Norman, category manager for Newey & Eyre explains: “The 17th Edition carries massive implications, considering most domestic installations are wired in the traditional manner with twin and earth cable beneath the plaster surface, have more than one socket circuit, several lighting circuits and a couple of bathroom circuits. This means it is likely that practically every circuit will now require 30mA protection, as well as protection by MCBs. Plus, in order to ensure that a single fault does not cause danger or other hazards, more than one 30mA RCD will also be required.

Newlec Metal Clad Consumer Unit“In addition, not only are there many types of property to consider, from bed-sits to multi-storey houses, each with its own design considerations, there are also many types of equipment to factor in too. Although some items can be grouped together into one RCD, such as in a split load board, there are other items of equipment that may require a dedicated supply, such as smoke alarms, burglar alarms and door entry devices.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to help our customers to work well and provide the resources they need, we have extensively updated our Newlec range of consumer units and devices, which will help the installer meet these new and challenging regulations.”

Widely and consistently available throughout Newey & Eyre branches nationwide same day or next day delivery, Newlec products offer performance, quality and value for money.
